Renewing IP Address on Mac OS X

When a ResNet user''s IP address is not showing as a 134.114.x.x address (in the Network preferences control panel), it may be "stuck" on a 10.2.x.x address after registration, or on a 192.168.x.x address after a rogue DHCP server has been brought up and then taken down.  In previous OS versions, restarting the Mac would usually renew the IP address, but in Mac OS X this is not the case.

To "manually" renew the IP, change the Configure: drop-down of the Network preferences TCP/IP window from Using DHCP to Manually.  Click the Apply button and close the Network preferences window.

Open the Network preferences window again, and change the Configure: drop-down back to Using DHCP.  Click the Apply button again, and if all goes well, the IP address will change to a valid 134.114.x.x address.
